The Birthday Boy

Oh what a sweet little fella Gage is!  I do believe he is one of the happiest babies!  As you can see, he is very excited about turning one, and most everything else… well, except the texture of grass and cake.  I hope you have many more wonderful birthdays to

Good Sportsmanship Lives On

As a soccer mom with a camera, I am always on the sidelines cheering and snapping photos.  Actually, keeping the camera in front of my face helps to tone down my hyper yelling which makes my son happy.  Today, I was inspired by an act of good sportsmanship and thought

2013 Eastern NC Livestock Show & Sale

I married a farm boy and as the mother of two 4-H’rs, I have come to look forward to the annual Eastern North Carolina Livestock Show and Sale for Edgecombe, Halifax, and Nash Counties.  Over the years, the event has become a tradition.  My boys enjoy the 4-H experience and

Woodland Beauties

God gave me two boys and I love them dearly.  But let’s face it, boys aren’t the best subjects for portraits in the flowers.  That is one reason I get all giddy when I have the chance to photograph girls!  This year, North Carolina experienced a late spring, and it

Photography with Friends on the Farm

A beautiful Saturday morning, a sweet model, and girlfriends with cameras out on the farm…. what more could a photographer and teacher wish for? Helping others create better images is not part of my business plan, it is part of who I am.  Like photography, helping others to learn is

Summer Sunsets and Silhouettes

Now that the days are getting longer, we can all enjoy long afternoons and sunsets.  One of my favorite pictures to take at sunset is a silhouette.  They are actually quite easy to accomplish.   The first step is to find a “clean” source of light for your background.

Smile, Baby!

Like most photographers, I have a bag of tricks to help bring out your personality at photo sessions.  But 3 month old babies were a challenge until I learned this neat trick from Karen Rubin at the PPNC convention.  At 3 months old, babies don’t have full vision development but they see

Horsin’ Around ~ Equestrian Photography

How many kids ask for a pony for Christmas at least once?  I know I did.  I never received one… apparently they are too large for Santa’s sleigh.  Luckily a neighbor had a stable full and she was willing to let me ride often.  After going off to college, I

I Hope You Dance

Have you ever heard the song “I Hope You Dance” by Lee Ann Womak?  When I was pregnant with my first child, I sang it to him every night.  I think it perfectly conveys a mother’s wish for her children… a wish for a happy, healthy life full of love.

Touching Moments

Newborns are precious, all the time.  But sometimes the most precious moments come from the family interactions during a session.  Every mom remembers the raw emotions of having her first child, and it takes about 2 seconds for newborn baby girls to wrap their daddys around their tiny fingers.  I
