I have seen this quote several places and wish I knew the original source because it is so true.
”When you buy from a local business, you are not helping a CEO buy a third vacation home. You are helping a mom put food on the table, pay a mortgage, buy a little girl’s dance lessons , a little boy’s jersey for his football/soccer team or helping a student pay for college. Our customers are our shareholders – and they are the ones we strive to make happy. Thank you for supporting small businesses!”
The spirit of any community comes from its people. Supporting your local business owners and entrepenuers helps strengthen the community. I have also read that local businesses generally reinvest twice as much of their proceeds back into the local economy as compared to chains. Having vibrant local businesses creates a win-win cycle.
To help with this cause, I am starting the Thursday Tout on the KJ Bradley Photography facebook page to showcase a local store or business from our community. This week’s Thursday Tout is The Candy Cottage. Created by Rocky Mount locals, Rhonda Dunn and Kendall Cobb, The Candy Cottage is a plastic “gingerbread house” that can be used over and over. Just add icing, candy, and your imagination to create masterpieces for all seasons and occasions! Several local shops such as Kadmark, Top of the Pines, Kenilworth, Rusty’s, and The Red Caboose offer the The Candy Cottage. Check out their business and facebook pages and see what it’s all about!
Just a Note: The Thursday Tout is not related to photography and I am not receiving any kickbacks. It is just my way of supporting the community I live in. “It is good to be blessed. It is better to be a blessing.” ~ Author Unknown.
